James William Killdeere thought he was through with life as an outlaw. Raised on raids and robberies, Billy tried to settle down on the family ranch in Nevada. But the murderous exploits of the Killdeere Gang had long since buried any chance Billy might have had at a normal life.
After getting shop up by some thugs who planned to steal his cattle, Billy finds shelter with a family headed for California to start a milling business. He decides to join the family on their voyage and put away his gun belt for good.
But his solace is short-lived. Estranged from both his criminal family and the right side of the law, Billy finds himself in love with a woman he can never have, in the middle of an impossible gunfight, without a soul to trust.
